HVC Groups Agreement

At Hearing Voices Cambridgeshire Groups, group members and facilitators have brought together a list of core values that we use at each group to make them a safe and welcoming space for all.

  • The groups are open to adults living in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough experiencing unusual sensory experiences, such as hearing voices, smelling, seeing, tasting, or sensing things others do not.
  • Different experiences are welcome here and different conversations outside of voices are also welcome
  • We accept that there are different reasons for these experiences, they are real and meaningful experiences and voices in themselves, are not, for everyone, an indication of illness, though coping with voices can be distressing
  • Each group member is an expert on their own experiences
  • These groups are led by the members
  • Confidentiality – what’s said and who is seen in the group stays within the group
  • No filming or recording of the group. If online, please do not screenshot or record the sound or screen and make sure you are in a private space where others can not see or hear. Wear headphones if needed
  • Please put mobile phones on silent
  • Respect and empathy amongst peers
  • Non-Judgemental
  • Be mindful of your language and the impact on others (e.g. swearing)
We respect diverse opinions, but this is an inclusive space. Please be mindful of the impact your words may have on others
  • Sharing the floor – so everyone has a chance to speak
  • Do not attend under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Not interrupting
  • This is not therapy, but you may find the space therapeutic – if you feel you need further support, we can signpost you
