PERSONAL EXPERIENCES

Hope

The hearing voices group was suggested to me for quite some time by mental health practitioners from various organisations and I had contemplating attending. My mental health had been in quite a dark and bad place due to a delusion and hearing multiple voices, who I was convinced were real people, but thankfully I came out the other side.

I thought it was is time to learn more about how other people cope with hearing voices and other general symptoms of my diagnosis. I was initially worried about how I would be received by the group, which is natural I guess, but thankfully I needn’t have worried as it turned out to be a friendly non-judgemental safe space to talk about any concerns I had and just generally socialise with others.

My main goal of attending the hearing voices group was to learn new coping mechanisms for my condition and how better to learn than to speak to people who had experienced similar experiences as myself. I have been well now for a number of months and I believe that attending the group has had a positive impact on my overall mental health. I know I will always have problems of one kind or another, but I feel that the hearing voices group has my back when I need it.
